Thornton Avenue


When we first visited this site, it was clear why our clients had bought it. The slightly elevated site provided beautiful views of the nearby nature reserve and further out over the River Hamble. 


The brief was clear, design a house which would provide each of the principal rooms with beautiful panoramic views out over the estuary. We worked extensively with our clients to develop a hierarchy of spaces and explore different layouts, until a clear preference emerged. The resulting design includes a stepped ground floor with a series of open plan living spaces extending the full width of the ground floor. Large format sliding glazed doors with minimal frames, ensure uninterrupted views. Smaller, more intimate spaces are located to the front of the house. 


Planning permission was granted in January 2021 and construction is due to begin later this year.
